The 2010 Maxxis British motocross championship started in fine style at Little Silver in Devon yesterday. With extreme weather warnings in place, round one of the championship looked doomed but the sun shone brightly as the day turned out near perfect, and with the new 3 race format everyone was in for a great days racing.
As the day started off a little on the wet side for the morning session of qualifying, Alex on his all new mounted 450 Kawasaki got to grips with the track well and posted the 4th quickest time of the MX1 class. If that wasn’t enough for the top 12 riders, they then had to try and repeat it as they entered the superpole which would consist of one flying lap! Alex again posted another fast time which he improved on from the first session but remained in 4th place again proving the first session was no fluke.
As the riders came off the line for their first moto the Albion Kawasaki shot out of the gate rounding turn one in 4th position. Alex soon settled in to the race going early with the front runners of Bobryshev, Leuret and Rowson. Although suffering with arm pump halfway through Snowy kept it smooth and mistake free to the finish were he placed a career best 4th place.
Moto 2 saw another great start for the local rider were he placed 4th once again off the start behind current champion Brad Anderson and CAS Honda duo of Swanepoel and Bobryshev. Again Alex pushed hard early on, but lost a little bit of ground after a couple of mistakes mid race where he found it hard to regain his rhythm from earlier in the race. He pushed all the way to the finish and placed 7th at the line.
With a short and sharp turn around the riders were back to the line for race 3. Alex proved the his first 2 great starts weren’t a wash in the pan as he again came out of turn one in the top 5, as he swept around the outside of turn 3 he managed to miss the carnage on the inside, tangling with Anderson but managed to squeeze in to 3rd. Alex battle hard with the top pretenders for several laps, although he did slip back a couple of place by half distance he was looking calm and collected until a small collision with Stephen Sword on the back part of the circuit saw Snow clip Swordy’s rear wheel and nearly crash. Luckily Snow managed to muscle the bike back in to shape but the damage was done as Dougan and Nunn had managed to take advantage of the mistake which dropped Alex to 8th were he finished. This was enough to secure 6th overall on the day.
Snow commented ‘’I am really pleased with how today has turned out. The first race went very well, I was slightly disappointed with the results in the second 2 races as I was making a few sill mistakes. This has given me a great base to start the year and I believe this has all been helped achieved by all the sponsors, a great bike, great preparation and organization.’’
