Mat Mladin AGAIN in Virginia - AMA Superbike rd.14/15 - Alton, VA

Mat Mladin AGAIN in Virginia - Yesterday afternoon at Virginia International Speedway, Yoshimura Suzuki’s Mat Mladin won his 60th career AMA Superbike National and moved to within just 11 points of teammate Ben Spies in the 2007 AMA Superbike National Championship. In was déjà vu on Sunday afternoon, August 19, 2007 as, once again, Mat Mladin won with teammate Spies in second. It was Mladin’s 10th win of the season and now pulls him right up behind his teammate in the points race, Mladin now just six points adrift of Spies with only three races left on the schedule (two legs at Road Atlanta, and the season finale at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in mid-September.

Sunday’s race in Virginia was an all-Mladin affair, the multifold Superbike Champion grabbing the holeshot and not looking back, Spies getting a bad jump off the line and mired in midfield. In fact Spies did not find his way into second place until lap number six of the 28-lap affair. Mladin was never fazed, though, winning easily with 5.590 seconds to spare. Jordan Suzuki’s Aaron Yates placed third while Monster Kawasaki pilot Jamie Hacking was fourth. Yamaha rider Eric Bostrom appeared to have fifth place locked-up, but his machine broke with less than two laps to go in the race. Tommy Hayden benefited from Bostrom’s misfortune, snagging fifth. Luca Scassa and his MV were seventh overall.
