Fernado Alonso and Lewis Hamilton Place 1-2 in Malaysia; Jarno Truli drives his Toyota into the points.
Team McLaren drivers Fernando Alonso and rookie sensation Lewis Hamilton drove their Mercedes-Benz-FO 108T-powered McLaren MP4-22 race cars to a resounding one-two finish this Sunday at the 3.444-mile Sepang International Circuit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Sepang marked Fernando Alonsos 16th victory and was his first for any team other than Renault. Fourth overall fell to BMW-Sauber pilot Nick Heidfeld, who experienced a great result in his BMW P86/7-motivated F1.07. Fifth fell to Felipe Massa who ended up in the grass during the race, but fought back to earn a respectable points haul. Giancarlo Fisichella of the Renault team raced to sixth overall. Jarno Trulli of Pescara, Italy drove his Toyota TF107 into the points on Sunday afternoon, scoring seventh when the checkered flag was unfurled and flashed. Trullis result came at the same track where he scored Toyotas first F1 podium finish two years ago. Trullis points haul now elevate Toyota above Williams in the 2007 constructors championship. As a footnote, despite being forced to start the race from the pit lane, Rubens Barrichello drove his visibly underpowered Honda RA807E-powered RA 107 to 11th place. Honda teammate Jenson Button was 12th.
Round three of the 2007 FIA Formula 1 World Championship will commence next Sunday at the 3.366-mile Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, Bahrain.
