Jason the Scorcher

Although he qualified a very unlucky 18th overall at Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the World of Outlaw's Las Vegas Super Sprint Classic, Jason Meyers came up aces high with just two laps remaining in the main event to victory from the jaws of defeat.

"I don't think I have ever won a race from that far back and I don't know when the last time an Outlaws race was won from that far back," Meyers explained in Victory Lane. "We went out and were trying to get a top-five on a night that had kind of gone backwards on us. The guys gave me one heck of a race car and there was a great track tonight. My hat's off to my team."

And making the win even more special for the entire GLR Investments team was the fact that Jason’s crew chief, Chief D.J. Lindsay, was informed earlier in the week that his father-in-law Jim Boyd had lost his life.

"We had a lot going in here tonight with the loss of Jim Boyd, a great friend to the team," lamented Meyers. "We're going to miss him dearly and this one is for him. We had a lot riding on tonight. D.J.'s (Lindsey, crew chief) wife asked me to go out and win this one tonight and I told her I would do my best. It means a lot and this one is for the entire Boyd family."

Meyers began the A main from the ninth row but by the time the first yellow flag was unfurled and waved, Meyers had scratched and clawed through the pack and into the top 10. there. As the race wore on, by the time the second caution happened on the 17th lap of the event, Meyers was up to sixth.

"The car took off really good on restarts," said Meyers. "The tires stayed aired up and the car took off and I was able to get quite a few cars there. I don't know if I was a fan of these double file restarts, but they seem to be working out for me."

And after a frenzied charge to the front of the field, it all came down to the last five as Meyers had reeled in Donny Schatz and was looking to lead. Schatz was up on the cushion and Meyers had his #14 GLR Investments sprint working in the lower groove. On lap-28 Meyers made his move on the inside of turns one and two. However, on the white flag lap, Steve Kinser took the second spot and caught Meyers going into the final two turns of the race. Kinser took the lead momentarily going into turn three, but Meyers pulled to the inside in the fourth turn. As the duo raced to the waiting checkered flag looming in the distance, Meyers edged Kinser at the line by just 0.237 seconds.

"I had to try to not get too excited and miss the bottom," said Meyers. "I made the wrong move going and taking the white flag. I shouldn't have gone across (Fred) Rahmer like that and knew I would be in trouble when I came off (turn) two and I thought it would be Donny (Schatz) not Steve (Kinser). Steve ran down in there and went across the corner.  I'm lucky he didn't get his car stopped in time to hit the bottom allowing me to get back by him. My guys gave me a great race car. This is great. A great start to the season and this is where we wanted to be. I'm looking forward to this summer."

This marked Meyer's first victory with the Outlaws in 2010 and his 36th career A main victory with the World of Outlaws. So now Jason Meyers and the rest of the Elite Race Team will be return to action on Friday, March 5 at the Groppetti Thunderbowl in Tulare, California for the first of two nights on the high-banked 1/3-mile. The Thunderbowl being Meyer's home track, he excited about the visit.

"We always enjoy going to Tulare," said Meyers. "There are great people there and a great facility. There are so many people we enjoy seeing there. I've never won a World of Outlaws race at Tulare, so maybe we can get the monkey off our back this week."
