MotoGP World Championship rd.12 - Czech Republic

Stoner Just Keeps on Rolling - Before nearly 145,000 spectators, Marlboro Ducati’s Casey Stoner won yet again on Sunday, August 19, 2007, racing to victory ahead of Rizla Suzuki’s John Hopkins and Repsol Honda man Nicky Hayden at the Czechoslovakian Grand Prix at the storied Brno circuit. Stoner’s win now has him 60 points ahead of his nearest rival in his quest for the 2007 MotoGP World Championship.

"John (Hopkins) was putting a lot of pressure on me,” commented Stoner of his race. “He caught me back up. I’d pull a little bit, he’d pull a little bit back. And so at the beginning of the race I had to focus completely, well, for most of the race I reckon. And then towards the end I started to continue my rhythm and John just dropped off the pace a little bit so I could relax a bit. But at the same time, I made a couple of very small mistakes so it snapped me back in gear, and I just kept focusing to the end."

Hopkins, who placed 7.903 seconds back behind stoner, added: "After about ten laps to go, I had to give up on him and concentrate on finishing second.”

Nicky Hayden was pragmatic about his third place podium finish. "When I got into third I thought, oh, OK, I’m going," Hayden said, "and for about three or four corners, I thought, alright, I’m catching them. And then I got on the straight and I thought, no, this ain’t going

Fourth overall went to Hayden’ teammate, Dani Pedrosa, while Rizla Suzuki’s Chris Vermeulen was fifth. Marlboro Ducati's Loris Capirossi was sixth, and Valentino Rossi finished a disappointing seventh, three seconds further back.

With only six races reaming on the 2007 MotoGP calendar, Casey Stoner has 246 points beside his name in the scoring sheets, 60 ticks ahead of Valentino Rossi who has 186.
