Rubens Barrichello win Charity Karting Event in Brazil

The International Challenge of Go Karting Champions Charity race organised by Felipe Massa took place at the Ingleses Kart Track in Florianapolis, Brazil on the 30th November 2008 with a host of past and present stars from the world of Formula 1 and other disciplines of motorsport present.

Among those taking part where Formula 1 stars, Rubens Barrichello, Felipe Massa, current test drivers Lucas Di Grassi and Vitantonio Liuzzi along with seven times Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher.

When qualifying got underway it was Formula 1 test driver Lucas Di Grassi who managed to take pole position for the first of the two races scheduled to take place later that day.

The opening race got underway with Lucas Di Grassi leading from fellow Brazilian Rubens Barrichello and Michael Schumacher. Rubens finally got past Lucas, but was soon being pursued by Vitantonio Liuzzi and Michael Schumacher before he spun. Rubens then battled it out with Vitantonio for the victory managing to make an overtaking maneuver stick whilst braking into one of the more technical sections of the circuit forcing Vitantonio wide and allowing Lucas De Grassi through into second. Ruben’s then drove away to take the opening victory to the delight of the home crowd.

In race two it was another local hero, Felipe Massa who took the victory, while Rubens managed to bring his kart home in fifth which was enough to secure him the overall victory.
