On Shot Wonder: The 2007 AMA Superbike Championship Boils Down to a One Race Showdown! - Due the fact that Mat Mladin, for the second day in a row, defeated Yoshimura Suzuki teammate Ben Spies at Road Atlanta on Sunday, September 2, The 2007 AMA Superbike Championship will all come down to a single 28-lap race at 3:00 P.M. at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on Sunday, September 16, 2007. By defeating Spies today, Mladin opened up a three point gap on his title adversary, setting up what will be a winner take all gunfight in the hills of Salinas, California.

"That's the way we wanted to be heading to Laguna Seca," Mladin said after the race on Sunday, his sixth consecutive race win. Mladin led the race right form the start, and through sheer speed, steadily pulled away from Spies, winning the race by 6.794 seconds.

For Spies, there is now nothing left to do but look ahead to season finale at Laguna Seca. "We'll come back for Laguna," he said with enthusiasm. "It's going to be exciting for sure."

Jordan Suzuki’s Aaron Yates was fourth, followed by Monster Kawasaki’s Roger Lee Hayden. Hayden earned fifth the hard way, having to pass American Honda’s Jake Zemke on the white flag lap. Tommy Hayden — on a Yoshimura Suzuki — was seventh and Corona Honda’s James Ellison was eighth.
