World SBK Championship rd.6 - Monza, Italy

Yamaha Motor Italia's Noriyuki Haga resolutely dominated the Monza round - round six - of the 2007 World Superbike Championship. Home turf for Yamaha Motor Italia, Haga won both legs on the fabled Monza circuit that was built in 1922 by 3,500 workers hired by the Monza Automobile Club. Globally recognized as one of the most revered circuits on the Formula 1 schedule, Monza, which first hosted the World Superbike Series in 1990, is also the fastest track the two wheel men will race on this year. To that end, Noriyuki used every meter of the 5972-meter track to his advantage on Sunday, gifting his Italian-based team a commanding double victory today at their home circuit. In race two on Sunday, the Japanese rider fought his way up the leader board to defeat Hannspree Ten Kate Honda's James Toseland. Haga truly found his rhythm in the twilight stages of the race, consistently reeling off lap times in the 1:46 range. On the white flag lap Haga backed it down a click, rounding the Monza circuit at 1:49.377, still winning by an impressive 2.6 seconds.

In the first leg at Monza, Nori Haga went to war with the Hannspree Ten Kate Hondas of James Toseland and Roby Rolfo. However Toseland and Rolfo were the only two riders to run the softer "B" Pirelli rear tire in Italy (instead of the harder "C") and both were bit by the choice before the race ended. With the both Ten Kate Hondas faltering, Ducati Xerox's Troy Bayliss raced to second. The WSB World Champion battled Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra's Max Biaggi, finally claiming the runner-up spot over the four-time 250cc World Champion, who finished 1.3 seconds behind.
