Troy Bayliss win Silverstone Rain Parade - The Silverstone Circuit — home of the British Grand Prix Formula 1 race since 1987 — was scheduled to hold the second of three United Kingdom-based rounds of the 2007 World Superbike Series. Also marking the halfway point of the 2007 World Superbike Series, the men and machines were ready to go to war in the two legs scheduled on Sunday afternoon, May 27, 2007.
The problem was, though, that the rains came — and, well, never left. In the opening race, the rains lashing what had once been a British airfield, Ducati Xerox's Troy Bayliss splashed to the victory, masterfully holding off the two-prong attack of Yamaha Motor Italia WSB teammates Noriyuki Haga and Troy Corser. Moreover, the opening race at Silverstone also spelled disaster for 2007 WSB championship leader James Toseland as the Hanspree Ten Kate Honda rider crashed out of the lead race on lap number three. Fortunately for the British racer, he was able to climb back aboard his Honda and get back to eighth place overall. To that end, with his excellent runner-up placing at Silverstone, Nori Haga was able to slash away at Toseland’s point lead, now just 23 points shy of the title leader. James Toseland was hoping to atone for his opening race gaffe, but the weather gods would have not of it, the rain beginning to come down in buckets so large, the event organizers were forced to cancel race number two, thus putting the 2007 Silverstone World Superbike down in the record books as an abbreviated one race affair.
