Troy Bayliss and his Ducati Xerox machine rebounded to win World Superbike race number two at the Vallenlunga circuit over opening race winner Max Biaggi. Meanwhile, in the calamity behind them, 2007 WSB Championship leader James Toseland crashed his way out of the race and finished a lowly 11th. With the curtain about to close on the 2007 WSB season, Toseland’s lead over Biaggi for the title has now shrunk to 29 points. Nori Haga, who placed third in the second race, is now just four points behind Biaggi in the WSB point standings. Troy Corser was fourth in the final race while Hannspree Ten Kate Honda’s Robby Rolfo placed fifth.
The race started with Bayliss opening up a 1.192-second lead over Nori Haga, while Toseland, Lorenzo Lanzi and Corser were all immediately behind. Biaggi was on the move, passing Lanzi and riding into fifth. On lap number three, Biaggi passed Corser in the tight hairpin after Curva Semaforo. Biaggi was laying down the fastest lap times of the race by this point in time, and as the laps clicked off, went around Toseland and Corser. At that point, Bayliss led Haga by 1.20 seconds over with Biaggi a mere three seconds back. 12 laps in, Biaggi was closing in on Bayliss and Haga, the trio a mere .482 second within one another. One lap later, Biaggi made a move on Haga and set off after Bayliss. Biaggi attempted to pass Bayliss on lap number 17, but Baylioss slammed the door shut and Biaggi lost momentum. Bayliss used the move to his advantage, speeding away to win the race over Biaggi by almost 2.00
